About

My name is Brian Allison, and this is my blog about bandits, highwaymen, duelists, and other maladjusted humanity in and about the “Rock City” of Nashville, Tennessee. Drop me a line and let me know what you think.

To hear more stories, pick up a copy of my book “Murder and Mayhem in Nashville, Tennessee,” due for publication by the History Press in October, 2016. Enjoy!

  1. Hello,
Marcus Cartwright was a brother of my great-grandmother, Anna Cartwright. He has always been an interesting figure in our family, so I enjoyed reading your article about Ike Johnson in the Nashville Retrospect. I knew about Ike and his suicide, but there were a couple of items that interested me greatly that I did NOT know. You mention that Ike was Marcus’ brother-in-law. I did not know that and still am not sure of the connection but would like to know anything you know about that. Marcus’ wife was Allie but I can’t remember her maiden name off the top of my head. It seems that I thought she had been adopted. Maybe the Johnson family adopted her? What do you know about that?

Also, I was surprised to read that Zollie Cartwright had killed someone outside the Southern Turf in 1897. That fact does not seem to have been passed down in the family lore! Do you know the exact date or how I can find out more about that?

I look forward to hearing from you and if there is any information I can provide for you, please let me know.

    My email address is johnwadlington@aol.com

    Thank you,
    John Wadlington

  2. Brian, I really enjoyed your book. I would like to write a review of it with a short interview on how you approach the research for your book. It sounds like you are constantly immersed in that portion so I feel you’d be great for the interview. Here is an example http://www.adamhillwrites.com/single-post/2017/01/17/Descending-Memphis-Robert-Moss-Review of what it’s like. I am at starhickATgmail if your interested. I’ll review your book regardless but would enjoy a chat.-A
