The next such event is a downtown walking tour, led by me, where we’ll get a little exercise while seeing some of the sites covered in the book. There will also be some additional info and stories that didn’t make it into the book. The tour costs $20 per adult, and is offered through Echoes of Nashville (click on “Murder and Mayhem” on Saturday the 8th to book your tour). Remember that the tour starts and ends at Legislative Plaza (in front of the Capitol Building between Union and Charlotte). Tour time is 3 PM…Just as everything is getting all sunset and spooky this time of year.
It lasts about an hour or a little over, and if you bring some extra you can purchase a signed and autographed copy of the book. Hope to see you there!

I just ordered your book. I saw from the preview on Amazon.com that there is a chapter on my 2nd-great-grandmother’s half-brother, Tom Cox (and in the chapter title, you referred to him the same way that I do; when I list the many black sheep in my family, he’s “Uncle Tom the cop killer.” I’m especially looking forward to reading about him.

Beth, good to hear from you. It is difficult dealing with our ancestors sometimes, I know. I have several myself that my family don’t often talk about. I tried to find something sympathetic in everyone I wrote about, and I’ll admit, with Tom it was difficult. That being said, he had a mother and friends who loved and mourned him, and his death was far more painful and difficult than anyone deserved. I’ve spoken with descendants of Officer Ben Dowell as well, and it was a difficult story to tackle – a true reminder that these were real people, not cardboard cutouts. I hope you enjoy the book, and that you find I did the story justice. Take care!
